About Our Cath Lab
The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) at Midwest Hospital & Medical Institute, Asansol is a specialized facility designed for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. It is an integral part of our advanced cardiac department, equipped with cutting-edge imaging technology and staffed by a dedicated team of interventional cardiologists, nurses, and technologists.
A cath lab — also known as a catheter laboratory or cardiac catheterisation laboratory — is where specialized tests and procedures are performed to diagnose and treat conditions of the heart and blood vessels. Unlike an operating theatre, most cath lab procedures are minimally invasive and performed under local anaesthesia while the patient remains awake.
Key Features of Our Cath Lab
- Advanced high-definition digital imaging systems (fluoroscopy) for precise real-time diagnostics
- Minimally invasive catheter-based procedures ensuring faster recovery and reduced risk
- Experienced team of interventional cardiologists with expertise in complex coronary cases
- Comprehensive cardiac care under one roof — from diagnosis to intervention to recovery
- Fully equipped for 24/7 cardiac emergency response with dedicated rapid-access protocol
- Patient-centred approach with personalised pre- and post-procedure care and counselling
Important: A cath lab should not be confused with an operating theatre. Most procedures are performed while you are awake, using local anaesthesia, and do not require general anaesthesia or open-chest surgery.
